Tuesday 16th April 2013 and our last call is a new aerial Wickford Essex.  We arrived to the nail parlour and was delighted to hear they wanted a new aerial on the back wall of the shop but wanted to run the aerial coax cable through the shop themselves.  With a good outside wall we got our ladders off and set-up and got a small pair of T&K wall brackets from the van

The wall was a good one with good brickwork for our T&K wall bracket, you can tell while drilling the holes for the mungos and bolts, if you’re going to get a good fix or not.  With the brackets up I decided to go with a Blake DMX10 w/b aerial as the signal wasn’t too good, with the Blake being an ultra-high gain aerial, I would have a good base line of signal to work with.

With the Blake fixed to the mast and taped neatly down the pole I took it up to the brackets and loosely fixed it in.  With the spectrum analyser connected I rotated the aerial 360degrees looking at all the available signals, and London looked like the winner with all 6 digital mux’s at 30db.  I straightened the aerial and pinched up the U bolts ensuring I didn’t drop a db. With the aerial now secure back to the van to choose a masthead pre-amp.

I carry an assortment of masthead pre-amp all with different gain values and noise.  I went with a 0>25db variable which I could set-up with the use of my spectrum analyser, lowering the noise and maximising the signal strength.  Once up the ladder to the aerial I shorten the aerial coax lead and fitted the mast head to the 8ft 1” ½ alloy mast.  Connecting my spectrum and powering the masthead I was happy with a gain of 18db making all 6 digital mux’s come in at 48db which was fantastic.

I neatly ran the aerial coax cable down the wall and then drilled inside out for the cable to enter the premises.  I drilled the hole high so my customer was able to run my cable through the false ceiling once the shop was shut and would not interfere with their customers.  I tested the cable once in the shop and I was delighted with the signal.  I then sealed the outside hole with mastic and packed my kit away, wrote my bill and headed home.  New Aerial Wickford Essex Www.andysaerials.com
