I went to one of the flats the week before to inspect the aerial system and found the tenants fly lead to be at fault from the wall socket to the TV.
Although the flats had a new system it was wired in a loop system which is an old fashioned way of doing it with today’s leap in technology. The top flat 3rd floor would be attenuated by say 20db and then the 2nd floor attenuated by 10db and the ground floor no attenuation at all.

When I looked at the signal with my spectrum analyser on the first visit I found a broken connection with the tenants fly lead from the wall socket to their TV I replaced it re-tuned their Humax recorder and TV and off I went to my other jobs of the day. I was surprized to have a 2nd call from the property management company stating there was still signal issues.

After thinking about it overnight I returned the next morning believing it must be interference as the face sockets were not isolated (isolated socket allow signal through but do not allow any return) so maybe one of the buildings residents had an old TV with a common fault of it leaking voltage to the chassis of the TV set and flowing out of the coax into the aerial system?

With that in mind I went on the roof and installed a Fringe Combined Low Loss Inductive Splitter which is a fantastic splitter with a through leg for DC pass. Tried and tested over the past 18years by myself and colleagues, I know it will outlast my 5year guarantee I give with all my work.

Once I fitted the splitter to the aerial, I ran a new lead on the isolated leg of the splitter (to ensure nothing could flow back into the new point I was installing to the tenants flat) not touching the existing system and giving them an independent point. Which they were delighted about, the guys who installed the system, had run trunking down the walls so all I had to do was open the trunking run my cable in it and drop it into the flat with a rain loop for water unlike the guys who ran the original cables!

My customers were over the moon the whole job didn’t take too long and gave perfect pictures I received a tip from the tenant which bought my breakfast before my next job
