Well after the recent storms and extremely high winds I’m sure we all know someone who has had their aerial blown down and either laying on their roofs or gardens waiting to fall. When we arrived at this lovely building we set-up our ladders to get to the 1st climb and took a look at the twisted aerial mast supporting an aerial and a 60cm satellite dish. The walls were rendered and not surprizing the fitted T&K wall brackets were fitted to the cement course and not the bricks. One of the T&K wall brackets had been ripped out of the wall and the other although damaged prevented the aerial and satellite crashing down.

After much inspection I decided to get on to the fully hipped roof above and lash the chimney stack low close to the roof as the building was 3 floors and the aerial was not struggling for height, so it made sense to lash the stack low and keep the aerial good and strong. Getting on the roof was a problem but once up there the views were fantastic, I quickly lashed the chimney stack and while I was doing that my partner was fitting our customer’s aerial on to an eight foot inch and a half alloy mast ready for me to drop into place and electronically align. The aerial signal was good and leaving plenty of coax cable to get to the previous siting of the TV aerial where the T&K wall brackets once was.

To my horror my partner handed me the 60cm satellite which he had disconnected and thought I wanted to fit to the pole. The satellite dish had a quarto L.N.B on it which has a port for vertical high, one for vertical low, horizontal low and horizontal high. The satellite cables must be put into the correct terminals for it to function and before I could ask for them to be marked he had already disconnected them! Hey ho, we now had to ping out each and every cab le for the system to work but hey! We’re not doctors and haven’t killed anyone with our mistake. With the cables now identified we connected our extension cables to the dish and connecting correctly to our customer’s cables we were happy with our work and tested a couple of points to check our customers were happy which they were.
