Friday 1st February 2013 and were off on our 1st appointment for a New aerial installation Hutton Shenfield Brentwood Essex.  I went out to the property on Wednesday where I chatted to my customer and discussed their new aerial installation, how it was going to be done and when, we all agreed a price and a date.

Unlike the Wednesday Friday was horrid with rain, rain and more rain.  Never mind we have fantastic waterproof gear and don’t mind too much about the weather, but looking forward to the summer with clear blue skies and sunshine!  The roof ordinarily would have been fantastic to walk up but wet and windy it soon woke me up.  (I then needed the help of a can of sugar free red bull) I positioned my ladders at the front of the house and walked up the roof to lash the chimney, with my tool belt a galvanised 13” chimney cradle and a lashing kit I was soon wondering whether I should have used my roof climbing ladders, once you have made the step off of the ladders your committed!

Slipping and sliding I was soon at the top of the roof where I could safely straddle the ridge and make myself combatable around the chimney stack.  I cut open the lashing kit bag and took out the j` bolts and started winding the lashing wire around the first j` bolt, and then attaching the j` bolt to the cradle once I had decided the best line of sight for the aerial.  I chose the back left corner with the chimney cradle facing the rear garden, as I could see lower trees from there believing that would be the best position for my aerial.  I stretched the lashing wire around the chimney stack until it returned to the 2nd j` bolt in the chimney cradle.  Once secured to the bracket I could now walk safely around the chimney stack to put the chimney corners in place and tighten up the lashing wire.

With the cradle secure I put the large u bolts into the cradle ready for the aerial.  I did not see the need for a 10ft mast and stuck with an eight foot 1” ½ Ali.  Once I had the aerial in place I rotated it 360 degrees to view all signals and London looked the best as I thought.  I secure the mast and aerial to the chimney cradle ensuring I gained every possible dB for my customer, once secure I attached a Televes mast head pre-amp which has a built in attenuator so I could reduce the digital signal until I lowered the noise and was left with a good signal.  I dropped my new aerial coax cable into the loft and once again got off the roof.

I entered the house and accessed the loft and stapled my incoming aerial coax cable to the power point in the loft where I was to fit my distribution amp.  I fitted an Antiference 6way pro-amp my customer required a 4way but I always go higher just in case my customers decide to have extra points in the future.  I cut off all my customers coax plugs from their coax lead and changed the connection to f` plugs and connected to the Antiference 6way pro-amp.

I re-tuned the Humax receiver and TV, then took a reading from the sitting room TV point with my spectrum analyser, happy with format and strength I took a reading from the kitchen point and re-tuned that TV too.  As always very happy customers and perfect pictures.  Next call Billericay.
