Friday 1st call and were off for a new aerial installation commercial building andysaerials.com. One of my builder customers asked me if I would go to Kent and install an aerial to a commercial building and cable it to the workers rest room, which I was happy to do

On arrival we quickly noticed it was going to be challenging to get a fixing, so we made up a test aerial and took some signal readings on the inside of the building to see if we could install it internally. As you may have guessed from the picture the signal was terrible, probable due to the abundance of steel, as the building was a steel structure.

The company owner did not want us on his roof and feared it may leak as a consequence of anyone walking on it, which was a relevant point. We took our ladders off of the van to investigate further, taking up the test aerial and meter I quickly knew there was a perfect signal to be had, 67db on all 6 digital mux’s outstanding! Only problem was where and how to get a fixing?

On closer examination I spotted the steel supports for the guttering gully and wanted to make a bracket to fix to that, once I had a bracket fixed there I could easily mount an aerial. Our vans have an assortment of stock and useless items which I either think will be useful or can be adapted in one way or another, and refuse to throw away. So finding something to fix to the steel was more than possible with all the odd stuff I seem to collect.

I managed to adapt a bracket I had and cut down an eight foot inch and a half pole to around 2ft, I knew the signal was fantastic and didn’t want to go any higher with the pole than I needed to keep the aerial strong.

Once I had the mast now secured to the building I decided to use a log-periodic wide band aerial purely because it has no back plate (deflector) and would be less of a wind drag, keeping the aerial installation there for years and years.

With the aerial fixed and aligned, all we needed to do was run the aerial coax cable to the rest room. We followed the cabling of the CCTV cameras then followed the air-conditioning pipes until we reached the ground. We spotted the sink waste exiting the building and knew we had an entry and no need for further holes, with the aerial cable now inside it was easy to hide the cable behind the kitchen units to reach where the TV was to be mounted. Perfect! Yet another happy customer of andysaerials.com
