A landlord called me and told me his tenants aerials was hanging off the wall and could I get there and have a look. When we arrived I saw a Unix 52 element dangling off of a ¾ alloy mast with a budget 6” wall bracket. All the mungos and bolts had left the gable end and the aerial cable was preventing the aerial from falling to the ground.

It was more cost effective to have a good quality aerial from me, rather than paying for wall brackets, pole and our time. I initially went up and fitted a small pair of T&K wall bracket but once I started to drill the gable end, I soon realised the wall was just sand and breeze block behind making a fixing difficult. I fitted the T&K wall brackets and as you will see from the attached photograph I also fitted a 12” wall bracket, further strengthening my fixing. My customer was aware of the soft gable end and was happy for us to fit an extra support for the aerial.

Because of the soft wall I went with a Blake DMX5 w/b aerial as I didn’t want anything too big on the mast, keeping the brackets with minimal weight, and wind force down to a minimal. Only trouble now is as the gable was considerably lower than the top of the roof, and using a light weight DMX5 I needed more signal to ensure picture quality for his tenant.

I used a low noise ratio Televe`s w/b mast head pre-amp and with it being adjustable by 15db I took my spectrum up with me and turned down the gain of the masthead until I had a good balance of signal and minimum noise. Now I had fitted the masthead pre-amp I was reluctant to use the existing cable as any joins/splits in the coax cable would prevent the remote 12v power supply unit from reaching the masthead, so I decided to run a new cable to the TV below.

I carry various colours of cable, black, brown and white, so with the property being whitewashed white it was. Once on the ground I brought the cable into the sitting room and fitted the 12v 100m/a remote power unit and re-tuned the tenants TV. As always perfect pictures and happy customers of andysaerials.com
