Friday morning and our 2nd call is for a new aerial installation Brentwood Essex.  When we arrived we spotted an old Yagi aerial pointing at Sudbury Anglia and a Sunfen a group aerial pointing at Crystal Palace London, they were diplexed and the diplexer had seen better days, just like the aerials.  As the diplexer was letting in water we had to replace the aerial cable, so we took everything down and cut off the old lashing kit and chimney bracket.  We soon had the new heavy duty chimney cradle securely lashed to our customer’s chimney stack read for the new aerial.  We took some test readings with our test aerial and we were happy to use a log-periodic w/b aerial.  The London signal was appalling and the Anglia was good only the 4g signal was also strong.

We fitted a temporary long aerial cable to the ground so we could further investigate the 4g signal and knowing we needed to use a masthead amplifier we thought we best tame the 4g signal first.  We fitted an outdoor 4g filter first but to be honest I was not impressed with its filtering period.  So next I tried one of the new masthead with 4g built in, although it reduced the signal, I still felt it need more as the top mux of Anglia was rather close to the 4g signal.

I tried one of my other filters and was rather happy it dropped the 4g signal by 20DB which I felt was enough for the masthead not to be overloaded and not interfere with the top mux of the Anglia signal.  So up we went with the filter and the low noise w/b masthead pre-amp, we fitted the filter about 3ft down the 8ft 1” ½ alloy mast and the low noise w/b masthead pre-amp a couple of feet beneath the filter.  We tested the signal once more before we complete sealed the filter and masthead.  We ran the new aerial coax lead into the loft and got our ladders down and back on the van.  Our customer made us a fantastic cup of tea and THE most scrummy all butter chocolate chip cookie, which was sooooo Moorish.  We went into the loft and connected up the new aerial coax cable to our customer’s and fitted the 12v power supply unit.  As always our customer was over the moon with their new TV pictures.  Next call new aerial Chelmsford Essex.
