Easter Monday and I’m to a new aerial installation Harlow Essex, and the sun is starting to shine. My customer wanted a new aerial installation and 2 points, one to the kitchen and the other to the spare bedroom. I looked at the neighbouring aerials as I pulled up and decided a Blake DMX5 would be a good choice of aerial to install.

With it still be windy I tied my ladders off to my customer’s guttering as I just knew they would blow down and didn’t want to risk getting stuck on their roof. I made my way to their chimney stack and lashed it using my favourite heavy duty 5 brick course chimney cradle. The views were beautiful, and I had to ask myself was winter finally going?

With the chimney now ready for the Blake aerial, I headed back down to my van to assemble one and fit it to an 8ft 1” ½ alloy mast. My smashing customer came out with a lovely strong cup of tea, and as it was a bank holiday I wasn’t on any time restriction and drank my tea with my customer and enjoyed him company.

With the Blake now ready to go up on the roof I put my spectrum analyser over my back and climbed up the roof to the chimney stack. I seated the pole in the chimney cradle and rotated the aerial 360degrees looking at all the possible signals and London was the winner with all 6 digital mux’s square and at 35db. I selected a two way mast head variable gain and set it up with my spectrum maximising signal and ensuring minimal noise.

I ran one cable direct into the loft for my customer to drop into their spare bedroom at a later date, and then I ran a 2nd cable down the roof to the rear of the house to the kitchen below. A hole was ready and waiting for me so all I had to do was tac down my cable fit a rain loop push the cable through the hole, and seal with mastic which didn’t take too long at all.

I fitted the 12v 100m/a remote power unit behind the kitchen TV and the set it up and my customers were delighted with their pictures.
