Summer is on the way, and the temperature is slowly rising.  People are starting to smile and were off to Blackmoor Ingatestone Essex CM4 for an aerial repair/replace fault find.  When we arrived our customer thought I had installed the aerial originally but I knew instantly from the shabby taping of the aerial coax cable it was nothing to do with me.  I tested the TV point which had a Labgear 12v power supply unit on but my spectrum did not show any signal whatsoever.

We got our ladders off of the van and went up the roof to see the aerial and the masthead taking the spectrum with us.  The aerial was an A group Yagi fixed to a steel 6ft ½” mast. Which was seated in a budget 6” chimney bracket which had been poorly lashed around the chimney stack.  The lashing wire had only been wound around the J bolts twice, and had to slip causing the chimney lashing wire to become loose allowing the 6” chimney bracket to damage the chimney stack with its instability.

I connected my spectrum analyser to the Labgear masthead pre-amp and powered it up, nothing came through.  I then connected the Yagi to my meter and it was bringing in 30db best with the six digital mux’s all different.  The middle 2 were the worst with an odd pattern, somewhat pointed and not good at all.

I figured the 6ft ½ mast was at fault and the aerial would achieve a better quality signal if it were higher.  I gave my customer 2 solutions with 2 budgets/ prices.  1) I could simply replace the masthead and power supply unit and their TV would be back how it was and they would run the risk of the Yargi aerial coming down and further damaging their chimney stack.  2) Allow me to re-lash the chimney stack correctly using heavy duty furniture and a substantial mast with a new aerial and masthead giving an Andy Aerial 5yr guarantee at a reduced rate due to them qualifying for OAP discounts.

Fortunately my customer took my offer and I re-lashed their chimney stack and re-positioned the aerial for a different line of sight achieving a much better quality signal.  I fitted a Facarro log-periodic w/b aerial with an Antiference 15dbw/b mast head pre-amp and an Antiference 12v 100m/a remote power supply unit by the TV which brought in a fantastic signal and got them up and running with a far better signal than they had.

We packed away and cleared up, re-tuned their TV and set off to Chelmsford for our next call, a new aerial and 5 TV points.New Tv Aerial Blackmoor Ingatestoen Essex Cm4 Www.andysaerials.com
