As you can see from the picture this was fairly late on Saturday evening, as the day was incredibly busy, which we like. After testing my customer’s aerial signal I suggested taking down their 2 aerials (London & Anglia) and putting up on good quality aerial, replacing the aerial coax to their distribution amplifier.

Originally I intended using my customer’s double lashed chimney bracket but with the tree cover the best signal readings were on a different corner of the chimney stack, so I cut down their double lashing and lashed the other corner of the chimney stack, using a heavy duty 13” 5 brick course chimney cradle.

To achieve a better signal I used a 10ft 1” ½ alloy mast rather than the usual 8ft. 1” ½ is good and strong but if the aerial requires any further height I always step up to 2” reducing the whip and guaranteeing the strength and support to the aerial.

Needing to receive every dB available I opted for an ultra-high gain aerial my favourite Blake Dmx10 w/b which for me has performed extremely well over the years, and due to its construction will last for years to come, taking into account the freezing winters and those baking days in the summer. Not forgetting the abuse birds will give it when they push on the elements to take sky.
Strangely enough the best signal was Sudbury, the London signal was in need of amplification and I chatted to my customer who was happy to go with the best signal Anglia. Once the Blake DMX10 w/b aerial was aligned I run the cable into my customer’s loft and connected it to his Maplin 8way distribution amp, I did not take too much notice of the gain or the noise figures as I had a very good clean signal from my aerial going in to their amp. Of course I would have preferred my Antiference 8way pro-amp but theirs would do.

I tested several points and found 2 which had no signal at all, my customer was surprized but was happy to investigate at their leisure, and I made them aware if they were not able to find the fault I could return and resolve the issue if the required.
