Our 2nd call Thursday 26th March, on an extremely cold day (where has spring gone?)  A new aerial installation Harlow Essex.  When we arrive it was extremely cold a polar bear and some penguins were enjoying the snow on the ground and were not bothered by the cold!  I was further delighted to see the roof was slate and the icing on the cake was the ornate ridge tiles which look lovely but make getting on the roof and staying up there challenging!

I set my ladders up and got the roof climbing ladder on the roof then came down and walked around the back of the house to see how far the hook of the roof climber had gone over the other side, happyish I climbed up looking at the sky light to my right, if my ladders took off that’s where I was aiming to go.  Once at the top I looked at the ornate tiles and they seemed to be in good condition so I started to lash the chimney stack.

Even the stack was a pain as ordinarily I would just climb over the chimney stack to fit the corners of the lashing kit, but the top of the stack had been capped with slate and it had come loose.  Unlike Father Christmas I didn’t fancy falling down the stack so I kept all my weight on only the corner bricks and stay my side of the stack.

With the chimney stack now lashed I had the made up aerial (Blake DMX10 w/b) sent up to me and dropped it into the large chimney cradle.  The signal was belting in so I dropped the aerial down a little as there was no need for it to be at the full 8ft,  “every little helps” just a little extra strength.

The aerial coax cable was a lot newer than the aerial and on closer inspection it was that horrid NTL cable which is full of glue, horrid to work with but up there and in fantastic condition, so I fitted an F’ plug to it and joined my aerial with and F’ barrel connector and plastered it with amalgamating tape which is 100% water proof.

I got down and put a new coax plug on the cable at the TV end and again metered the aerial and the cable was perfect.  So time to get my ladders down and pack up.  Everyone’s happy…  I’m off the roof and my customer’s TV is working perfectly.
