Saturday afternoon 16th March 2013 and were off to Brentwood Essex for what we thought was a satellite L.N.B upgrade and an aerial alignment.

When we arrived we looked at the loft and our customer’s aerial, a Blake DMX10 A group monster.  Which is a fantastic aerial but once fitted in the small loft space you would never get around it.  If the rear reflector plates were to be removed, the Blake would not function to its full potential, so having a solution to most problems I went to my van and fetched a log-periodic wide band aerial for my customer to look at.

The log-periodic is a fantastic aerial; its gain from ch21 to ch68 is level without dips or peaks in the signal gain.  Problem is I only like the Facarro type as they seem to have it perfect with mounting and waterproofing the connection.  Other manufactures have copied the design but failed miserably on replicating it.

I selected the log-periodic aerial to fit in my customer’s to give more room and access to their loft as the log could be fitted neatly up on the roof line.  However once I had connected the log to my spectrum analyser I quickly realised the log did not like the loft, and after crawling around for a while we found a location where the log was preforming well bringing in a decent signal to amplify.

My customer had run all his coax cables internally and terminated them in their garage.  He had run 2x 2 shotgun cables for sky but unfortunately had forgot to run the down link from the aerial which wasn’t an issue to us as there is various way of getting around that problem with their property.

As I needed to amplify the digital signal from the aerial, I selected a Televe`s masthead pre-amp which is a fantastic bit of kit.  You can combine U.H.F, V.H.F, D.A.D and satellite all down one cable with adjustable gain for each except the satellite.  I cut in to the dish feed and put it into the masthead pre-amp and used the other half of the cut into satellite cable to carry downstairs our digital aerial signal along with the satellite signal.

Once in the garage the signal needed to be separated again with a diplexed face plate which would allow the TV aerial and satellite signal to be separated and used.  I installed an Antiference 8way pro-amp which is a lovely distribution amp and has a 12v 100m/a power supply built in, so no need for a P.S.U and keeping the distribution area tidy.

When everything was fitted we tested the signal to check everything was working as it should be, which it was and wrote our bill and set off home after a long day.Indoor Aerial Brentwood Essex Http://Andysaerial.wpengine.com
