Roll on March and sunny days! Yes it was as cold as it looks, and this customer won first prize for having the best biscuit selection at a new aerial install Hatfield Peverel Essex! I quoted this job on Tuesday and booked it in for Thursday, the aerial signal was incredibly poor all the surrounding aerials were on 20ft masts which is never a good sign.

It was winter wonder land when we were called out to a new aerial install Writtle, as you can see from the attached picture it was cold and the roof was covered in snow too. The black panels are solar panels which make my job even more difficult as they dominate the south side of the roof, making it difficult to reach the chimney stack. The panels apparently store electricity and are dangerous to touch! As you can see my roof climbing ladder just fitted past the solar panels allowing me access to the roof. I’m pleased not every new aerial install Writtle has solar panels.

Saturday lunchtime and very cold -4c my customer had already been quoted for a new aerial installation by a couple of other aerial companies and their quotes were unacceptable to my customer. The house did not have a chimney so I selected the gable end at the rear of the house as I thought it would be more discreet and not over the front door. My van was too big to go around the rear of the property so I carried everything around ladders, drill, aerial, meter, pole, cable, and the T & K wall brackets. Although there was snow on the ground my customer’s garden stepped up from the patio which is great for me as I was able to use the bank to support my ladders.

Yet another customer of Sky who wanted to leave Sky and enjoy Free-View with the lovely word free! Saving Sky’s monthly subscription. My customer wanted a new aerial installation with 3 TV points which I quoted for on Monday the 14th and as always gave a good price.

I turned up at my customer’s property on time to see what need to be done, they had a beautiful state of the art Panasonic 42 L.ED HD TV in the main sitting room and a mirrored Sky+ box in the front sitting room which they could not record on as there was only one dish feed and there need to be two.

I went to one of the flats the week before to inspect the aerial system and found the tenants fly lead to be at fault from the wall socket to the TV.
Although the flats had a new system it was wired in a loop system which is an old fashioned way of doing it with today’s leap in technology. The top flat 3rd floor would be attenuated by say 20db and then the 2nd floor attenuated by 10db and the ground floor no attenuation at all.

When I looked at the signal with my spectrum analyser on the first visit I found a broken connection with the tenants fly lead from the wall socket to their TV I replaced it re-tuned their Humax recorder and TV and off I went to my other jobs of the day. I was surprized to have a 2nd call from the property management company stating there was still signal issues.

After thinking about it overnight I returned the next morning believing it must be interference as the face sockets were not isolated (isolated socket allow signal through but do not allow any return) so maybe one of the buildings residents had an old TV with a common fault of it leaking voltage to the chassis of the TV set and flowing out of the coax into the aerial system?

With that in mind I went on the roof and installed a Fringe Combined Low Loss Inductive Splitter which is a fantastic splitter with a through leg for DC pass. Tried and tested over the past 18years by myself and colleagues, I know it will outlast my 5year guarantee I give with all my work.

1st job Saturday morning new aerial installation Chelmsford Essex a very cold morning but dry. Our customer was a smashing chap and provided us with hot tea and biscuits ( diet still not doing too well!) Lovely roof to walk on and a nice square chimney stack. We fitted a 13″ 5 brick course chimney bracket and large u bolts, with the chimney stack being small it was easy to lash.
